Course Offering #1: Going the Distance (In Long-Term Relationships)
A long-term relationship (LTR) is a tricky business. It’s uniquely personal and intimate while at the same time must be run like a small business with all the trappings; such as, home and money management, teamwork, and effective lines of communication. How do we get off track in our relationships? Are we in denial that LTR’s don’t always last or is no one is teaching us how to shift when the relationship does; how to dance with the changes? This course will attempt to tell you about some of the speed bumps in an LTR that you may encounter. Here are some speed bumps we’ll explore and discuss.
Communication
Worldviews
Aging
Old, Moldy Resentments
Illness
We’ll also talk about ways to get over the speed bumps, around them, or blast right through.

Course Offering #2: Family and Friends Support Using the "Coach Approach"
I am currently offering this communications course at the University of Delaware's Osher Lifelong Learning Institute. The course is based on the article I wrote (see Articles page on this website). Ideally, the course includes 3-5 sessions in a small group setting (about 6 people). Let me know if you would like me to present Family and Friends Support using the "Coach Approach" to your group. Here are some comments from course attendees about what they liked best:
"The interaction among the group. Deb did a wonderful job teaching and leading us."
"Learning about the coaching concepts and the interaction between the instructor and classmates."
"Interactions with peers and instructor with real life situations."
"The size (of the class), the sharing and participation of all."
Course Introduction:
Keep in mind the 4 main tenets of the coach approach when supporting loved ones:
1. Self-care (choosing to be authentic and the importance of boundaries)
2. Be present and listen 100% with your heart and head.
3. Ask questions based on the person’s words so she/he can discover the answers that are inside.
4. Be supportive with words, body language and tone of voice and be non-judgmental.
